Earlier this week, I ran into some information on Mind Mapping. I really can't remember how exactly I linked into the Wikipedia page on Mind Mapping, but I did... and I was instantly inspired. I think it is because my brain works visually. I love to do lists, process flow charts and the like.
Mind Mapping is simply a visual representation of thoughts about a particular idea and it shows the linkage between the thoughts. It is a great way to brainstorm and get ideas on paper. Plus, sometimes it makes the brainstormed ideas look "pretty" on the paper too.
For an afternoon, I was mesmerized. I clicked many of the links on the Wiki page and then moved to Flickr and searched for mind maps. Some of the mind maps were created on a computer, but the ones I really loved looking at were the hand drawn ones. There is one Flickr user, Creative Inspiration, who clearly loves mind mapping and has some pretty incredible ones posted.
The mind maps I saw got me thinking, there are so many things in my life that I could mind map. I am currently "thinking" over so many parts of my life and trying to figure out where I go from here. Maybe mind mapping might be a fun way for me to come to some conclusions, or at least some starting points. So last night, I got out my Sharpies and some card stock and got started. I started out with an easy one - my crafty to do list. There are so many projects I want to complete. Many are already in progress and others I even have the supplies for. All I need to do now is consolidate and prioritize. Here is what I came up with: (see bigger here)
I like it. And I had fun doing it. It was my "kindergarten" time for the day. It was therapeutic. I can't wait to do more. I think I may even be able to mind map all the branches of my Bigger, Smaller Life Tree I did in January. Actually, now that I think about it, my tree is almost a mind map in itself. Cool.
If you do any mind mapping, send me the link, I would love to see what you come up with.
