Yesterday just started out badly. You know, without power, a shower, makeup and steamed clothes. After the power went on and I got to work, everything was a bit off. People were cranky. Everyday processes were harder. Everything was just a bit off.
At lunch I went to the auto parts store to get new windshield wipers. I have changed wipers many many times, but this was the first time for the Volvo and as I am learning, lots of things seem harder with the Volvo. I tried the little wiper-chooser-computer, but the screen wasn't working right. So, I had to ask for help. Ladies I am sure you understand, when I go into a place like this, I want to come off as capable and not as a stupid girl, so I really hated asking for help. But even the guy at the store was having a bad day. First he grabbed the wrong wipers from the back. Then it took him three times to ring me out with the 25% off. It was hot in the store and I was losing patience. I was so glad when it was all over.
Last night when I got home from work I tried to change the wipers. First obstacle was the packaging. Why can't packaging be easy to open? Then once I got the front driver side wiper off I realized the size they gave me was inches smaller than the one I took off. The computer was wrong, my car has two different sized front wipers. Next I tried the back and it was too long and had the wrong type of fastener. Looked like I was on my way back to the auto parts store - luckily it is only five minutes away.
I get there, explain my situation. A much nicer, more helpful guy assists me. We measure the wipers, pick out the right ones and do an exchange. There weren't enough workers there at that point for him to come help me install them so I went home again. I should have just stayed there because I ended back there again twenty minutes later.
No need to share any more details... you can just imagine. So after three visits to the store, an hour and a half invested and one nice gash in my finger I have new working windshield wipers - hopefully just in time to protect me from the rain and snow in St. Louis' forecast.
Promise I have more crafty stuff in store for you soon... and a new theme for the Holidays too.
